Politicking Practices

It’s important to embrace why BBYO puts such a large emphasis on no politicking. Politicking is engaging in political activities such as campaigning, having conversations about caucus materials or candidacies, using social media to promote or communicate anyone’s candidacy, asking who others may vote for, or telling others who they should or should not vote for. Although many know that politicking is strictly prohibited in BBYO, many do not know why.

BBYO is unique as it is one of the only places you will come across where you can put yourself out there, and no matter the outcome, always have a home here and more leadership opportunities available. BBYO elections are friendly competitions based on qualifications, not popularity, and by enforcing the no politicking rule, we promote the friendliness of the election and make them impersonal in the best way.

If you are caught politicking, you will lose your vote, and you may be subject to further consequences. Please know that politicking is serious, and there are consequences for any member suspected of engaging in politicking.

All members have a duty to vote based on qualifications, experience, goals, and dreams, not based on popularity. Those receiving your vote should have a strong work ethic, be able to balance multiple avenues of work, be a self-motivator and self-starter, be detail oriented, be proactive, be a team player and have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a variety of stakeholders. Remember, your vote is personal and private. The only people who you may discuss elections with are your parents, regional staff and chapter advisors, and the Regional Aleph Godol or N’siah.

If you experience a politicking incident, please report it. Thank you for upholding the integrity of elections, one of our movement’s most sacred traditions.
